Very recently we were hosting students from the Cambridge University Austrian Society who came to visit us in Oxford. After some sightseeing through various colleges and the city, we enjoyed dinner together. Exciting discussions about the unifying and seperating elements of studying in Oxford and Cambridge emerged and made it an interesting evening for both societies.

Last week, we had the pleasure to have Stefan Ruzowitzky here in Oxford. Mr Ruzowitzky is an Austrian film director and screenwriter who won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2008 with his film ‘The Counterfeiters’ (“Die Fälscher”). In an interesting talk he gave insights into the film industry, his role as a director, and his perceptions when watching films produced by other directors.

The Austrian journalist Ingrid Thurnher, moderator of the ORF polit talks ‘Im Zentrum’ and ‘Runder Tisch’, visited us and gave a talk about the challenges of working within public television. She provided us with insights into how her show is arranged and how topics as well as participants are selected. Not to mention the various interesting and amusing stories she shared with us stemming from interviewing people of public interest during her career.
